Welcome to the new home for the Shawnee Tribe online. We’ve been hard at work getting our website updated, we know it wasn’t the best and we’re trying to make a new more user-friendly experience.  If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to use the contact us form at the bottom of our home page!

During the implementation of the main home page the COVID19 epidemic struck and has disrupted us along with most everyone’s way of life. This directly impacted the release of this site with another site, www.ShawneeRelief.org becoming a priority. Which you can visit now for elder food aid as well as links to pandemic trackers and other aid links. The Shawnee tribe feels strongly about helping our most vulnerable citizens during this crisis, and we will get through this stronger together.

Other exciting news that is a bit brighter is the continuation of the Shawnee Language Immersion Project, while the pandemic has impacted this as well we are working to build a platform to save the Shawnee tongue.  George Blanchard has recently joined the team joining Joel Barnes and Karl Meyer with the preservation and revitalization effort.

Along with all Shawnee buildings the Golden Mesa Casino has also been temporarily closed after its successful debut. However, it would be irresponsible to keep it open and risk attracting someone contaminated with the Coronavirus to the Guymon community. We will continue to monitor the situation to best judge when a grand reopening might be possible. Barebones staff is remaining in the office to keep our core functionality responsive as we continue to find a path forward in this uneasy time.

Niyawe – thank you – for spending a few moments with us today.  Stay healthy and wash your hands!

-Karl
